nkt cables is to supply submarine cables to DONG Energy’s offshore wind farm in the UK

A decision to construct phase I of the Walney offshore wind farm project, located 15 km off the northwest coast of England, in the Irish Sea, has been made by DONG Energy .

nkt cables has been chosen by DONG Energy as supplier of 33 kV submarine interconnection and platform connection cables for the Walney I offshore wind farm. Walney I is planned to be completed at the beginning of 2011. The cables will be manufactured at nkt cables production plant in Cologne, Germany.

The award of this contract for supply of submarine cables for Walney I underlines nkt cables position in the market as a reliable partner solution provider in the realization of complex infrastructure projects by offering both technical competence and professional cooperation with both client and their contractors on site.

Walney II is still in the planning phase and, when completed, will be affiliated with Walney I offshore wind farm. Combined, the wind farms will have a total capacity of 367 MW, and consist of 102 turbines.

Walney II is expected to be completed in 2012.
