nkt cables receives order for one of the world's largest submarine cables

nkt cables has today signed a contract with Energinet.dk, to connect the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm with Jutland. The order has a value of approx. 18 mEUR.

nkt cables will supply a high voltage cable of approx. 25 km operating at 245kV AC and with a cross section of 3 x 1600 mm2 Aluminium. This is a turn-key project where nkt cables also will be responsible for cable laying and installation.

“With a diameter of 260 mm and a capacity of 400 MW it is believed to be the largest AC submarine cable in the world, which is a clear proof of trust in nkt cables’ capabilities in submarine cables”, says Dion Metzemaekers, CEO at nkt cables group.

The Anholt Offshore Wind Farm will be Denmark's largest and is scheduled for completion in 2012. The submarine cable is to connect to the grid north of Grenaa Harbour, and type testing is scheduled for the end of 2010.
